What do you call the metal piece on the bottom edge of a drafting table or art desk?
it's shaped like a ruler but is attached and can be raised or lowered to support the art work you have on the desk top.
What is the purpose of it being able to be up or down?

Pencil stop, or pencil tray.

Trust me on this. It is NOT used to support a loose piece of paper. Think about it. If it were used to support the art work, what purpose could be served by LOWERING the stop?
