I recently picked up Alice in Wonderland, and came across the question "How is a raven like a writing desk?" asked by the Mad Hatter. It said in the footnotes that there was no answer they could find, but a man had made one up saying that "A raven and a writing desk are alike because they can both make notes, usually very flat." I remember hearing once that there was another answer, having something to do with Edgar Allen Poe, does anyone happen to know what it is?

Everyone I've seen post on this question misses the real question. The question is "WHY is a raven like a writing desk?" not HOW. This suggest that the raven chose to be like, or different from the writing desk. It's a question of motive not characterics. So, WHY is a raven like a writing desk?

So I took a drivers Ed class this summer and people wrote all over the desks, and a lot of it was really inappropriate stuff. One person wrote a phone number and said "Call this number for a good time." Some kids in my class called the number on their cell phone, but the person had no idea what they were talking about and hung up on them. Isn't that really weird? Have you ever read anything like that before?
